01.Why restaurant replies matter
Restaurant reviews come in fast, and diners read the replies before they book.
A specific reply shows someone actually read the review. A generic one looks like nobody did.
Elena V.
The braised short rib was unreal.
Before
Response from the owner
Thanks for the review!
After
Response from the owner
Thank you, [Name]! We're thrilled you enjoyed the short rib. It's one of our kitchen's favourites too. See you again soon!
02.The reply flow
Four steps, whether the review is glowing or grumpy.
- Step 1
Read for the detail
The dish, the server, the occasion.
- Step 2
Name it in your reply
“We're thrilled you enjoyed the [dish].”
- Step 3
Thank or apologise once
Warm, short, no excuses.
- Step 4
Invite them back
With a real email or phone for anything that went wrong.
03.Anatomy of a great thank-you
A good positive reply is short. Here's what each sentence is doing.

07.Questions, answered
Should I reply to positive reviews too?
Yes, if you can. A short thank-you that mentions the dish or the server shows diners you read every review, not just the bad ones.
Should I offer a free meal in a public reply?
Better not to. Invite the guest to contact you privately and make it right there, so the reply doesn't read as a trade for the review.
How do I reply to a complaint about a dish?
Thank them for telling you, say you've shared it with the kitchen, and give a phone or email so you can make it right. Don't argue about taste.
What if the review is about a busy night?
Apologise once for the wait or noise without blaming the crowd, and suggest a quieter time or area if you have one.
Can ReplyDesk mention our dishes?
Yes. We pick up the dish, server or occasion mentioned in each review and use it in the reply, in your voice.
